Black Mountain was founded in 2005, with a commitment to deliver first class customer service, to share our knowledge and passion for Montenegro and the Western Balkans to support the development of sustainable tourism. We work together with our suppliers, partners, clubs, non-profits and communities to try to preserve Montenegro’s unique cultural and natural heritage. Click at the bottom of this page to read our sustainable tourism policy.
We are country portal managers for the National Geographic Western Balkans mapguide (www.balkansgeotourism.net) and members of the Western Balkans Geotourism Council.
Black Mountain was responsible for introducing the Leave No Trace programme of guidelines and education for outdoor recreation (minimising impact on the environment) to Montenegro in 2008, together with support from the UNDP (United Nations Development Program in Montenegro). Montenegro now has its own Master Educators and Trainers who are qualified to teach the Leave No Trace principles. Click here to read more about this particular programme
Black Mountain staff and partners have participated in and taught several seminars in Montenegro and abroad, on creating and marketing sustainable tourism offers for the region. Based on this training and good practices observed elsewhere we have developed our own guidelines for our local suppliers and partners and also put together our own sustainable tourism policy - something which is constantly changing and updating as we re-evaulate our work within the framework of infrastructure and policy developments in the country itself.

Black Mountain is the co-founder of Adventure Race Montenegro - an NGO set up to organise and support an annual adventure race and other sports events promoting outdoor tourism in Montenegro with sustainable tourism values at its core. We are constantly educating ourselves and our partners in ways in which we can apply international ethics and guidelines locally in Montenegro and the neighbouring region.
