Our experience

Black Mountain has been at the forefront of sustainable adventure travel in the Balkans since its beginnings.

 

In 2005, we chose Montenegro as the starting point for our tour business, recognising the extraordinary potential of the country — and the wider region — to deliver truly unforgettable travel experiences. The dramatic landscapes, rich culture, diverse wildlife, welcoming communities, and deep-rooted passion were all present, yet largely inaccessible to adventurous travellers seeking authentic exploration.

At the time, much of the tourism industry and regional authorities viewed the area primarily as a budget beach and resort destination. Determined to reveal a different story, we set out to build something new. From the ground up, we created a trusted network of local suppliers, community hosts, and expert guides, developing a diverse portfolio of authentic, community-based experiences that connected travellers more meaningfully with the region and its people.

We did not intend to offer consulting services but so many deserving destinations and businesses have asked for our help that gradually we came to offer expert advice in more than 20 destinations around the world. We have provided training and mentoring as well as strategic and master planning for small businesses, national parks, regional and national governments, trade associations and international development agencies.
