Mt Orijen - Hike the Coastal Dinaric's highest peaks

Start Point : Herceg Novi, Bay of Kotor

Duration : 8 Hours for a 1 day hike or stay overnight (see below)

Difficulty : Medium, some exposed paths

Join an experienced local guide to hike up onto the Alpine meadows and karst limestone pathways of the Orijen massif. Standing guard over the entrance to the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, Orijen is the highest peak in the Dinaric coastal alps and the views are spectacular. Ascend on the south or north side of the mountain, with multiple options for hikes to Subra and its amphitheatre rock formations, Veliko Cedilo or Grab for far reaching views, or Veliki Kabao to reach the highest point of the massif.

Season : Hiking on Orijen starts from mid April until late November depending on weather conditions. Outside of these periods and at higher altitudes until late May there is snow cover and appropriate winter skills experience and equipment is needed.

Prices : 1 day hike - EUR 45 per person based on minimum 2 people, EUR 35 per person based on minimum 3 people. Contact Us for group sizes of 4 or more.

Hike to St Andrija Fortress

Start Point : Perast, Bay of Kotor

Duration : 5-6 Hours

Difficulty : Medium, some exposed paths and little shade in summer

The old pathway from the town of Perast to the mountain top above is an impressive route. The views are far reaching and get more and more incredible as the path ascends. The path starts just outside Perast and climbs to a high point of 743m. The path is alternately rocky and grassy and some parts of the old pathway are narrow with exposed edges. Your local guide will familiarise you with the history of this trail and the story of the Austro-Hungarian fortress which sits atop the trail.

Season : This hike can be done usually throughout the year in good weather conditions. In hot weather there is little shade on most of the route and therefore we recommend an early morning start.

Prices : 1 day hike - EUR 45 per person based on minimum 2 people, EUR 35 per person based on minimum 3 people. Contact Us for group sizes of 4 or more.

Vrmac Ridge Hike - Spectacular Kotor and Tivat Bay views

Start Point : Kotor

Duration : 4-5 Hours

Difficulty : Easy to Medium

This wonderful hike starts outside Kotor with an ascent on an ancient Austro-Hungarian switchback pathway. The climb is part forested and part unshaded. At the top of the path the route continues along the ridgeline with views which are rewarding on all sides ! The path is wide and stony but the ascent once on the ridge is gentle and continues for 4kms before starting a 5km descent down to the mountain village of Gornja Lastva which looks over to the Tivat side of the Bay. The village is an ideal spot for a longer break in order to explore the church, ancient olive mill and traditional stone houses. The hike ends in Tivat from where it is a short taxi ride back to Kotor.

Season : This hike can be done most of the year round in goood weather. In summer it is recommended to start early morning or mid-afternoon, to avoid being on the ridge in the midday sun.

Prices : EUR 45 per person based on minimum 2 people, EUR 35 per person based on minimum 3 people. Contact Us for group sizes of 4 or more.

1/2
day
Mount Lovcen - mountain, forest and ridge hikes

Start Point : Kotor / Ivana Korita (Lovcen National Park) / Njegusi

Duration : From 3 Hours to 7 hours

Difficulty : All levels

Lovcen National Park offers excellent hiking opportunities from scenic woodland walks to ridge and mountain treks. Our favourite is a 14km hike which is part exposed on the Adriatia seaboard, part forested and part mountain trails through old villages. This hike starts at Ivana Korita in Lovcen National Park where there is parking and restaurant facilities. Rated as medium difficulty there are some steep, grass covered slopes to walk up on the seaboard side of the hike but no actual scrambling. In hot weather this walk is best done early morning or setting off just after lunch to avoid the midday sun on the most exposed parts of the trail. Depending on your fitness and experience your guide can offer a range of suitable hikes inside the park, all of which offer incredible vistas.

Season : Hiking on Lovcen starts in late April or early May, when the snow cover has gone and can continue in good weather until late autumn.

Prices : EUR 55 per person based on minimum 2 people for a full day hike, EUR 45 per person based on minimum 3 people. Contact Us for group sizes of 4 or more.

General Conditions :

Clients need to be in good health and physically fit. Hiking takes place on varied terrain and sometimes paths are old, in bad condition and overgrown. We endeavour to use renovated, marked paths where possible, but part of our adventure is to explore old trails and go to places where few other tourists travel. In places you will be very exposed to the weather elements (rain, sun, snow, wind) with little shade available. Conditions are always assessed prior to each hike. If hiking is cancelled due to inappropriate weather conditions we will endeavour to re-schedule the tour for another day. However, clients should accept that Montenegro is a mountainous country with remote areas and sometimes, for reasons of safety, hiking will sometimes need to be cancelled or postponed at the last moment and we may not be able to offer a similar replacement activity due to location or weather.

Montenegro is a stunningly beautiful country. Please come with a sense of adventure and ready to enjoy a great experience!
