Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable tourism, eco tourism, responsible tourism, carbon footprints, minimal impact tourism ...

These are the buzz words of the past two decades, but what do they mean and how can we behave more responsibly towards the world in which we live ?

At Black Mountain we read the latest reports and advice, and we try to apply the criteria, ethics and responsible tourism practices here in Montenegro. Most importantly of all we consider how our business here and the impact of our visitors, affects the local environment. We want to ensure that Black Mountain has a positive impact on the local community and the environment.
We adhere to the criteria put forward by the Global Sustainable Tourism CouncilBlack Mountain was responsible for introducing the Leave No Trace programme of guidelines and education for outdoor recreation (minimising impact on the environment) to Montenegro in 2008. Together with assistance from the UNDP in Montenegro, the country now has its own Master Educators and Trainers qualified to teach the Leave No Trace principles. In the course of this training we have developed our own guidelines for our local suppliers and partners and also put together our own sustainable tourism policy - something which is constantly changing and updating as we re-evaulate our work here within the framework of infrastructure and policy developments in the country itself

We support the World Responsible Tourism Day initiative

Black Mountain is the co-founder of Adventure Race Montenegro - an NGO set up to organise and support two annual adventure races promoting outdoor sports tourism in Montenegro with sustainable tourism values at its core. We are constantly educating ourselves and our partners in ways in which we can apply international ethics and guidelines locally in Montenegro
