Rafting Tara Canyon

Experience the stunning beauty of one of the world's deepest canyons right here in the heart of Europe. The cascading waters of the Tara River cut a deep path through the mountains of Northern Montenegro to a depth of 1300 metres in places and runs over more than fifty rapids along 100kms of UNESCO protected wilderness.

The Tara Canyon and rafting camps are located around 3.5 hours drive from the coastal areas. Black Mountain runs day and multi days trips to the rafting camps from May until September from Herceg Novi and Kotor. We can also arrange rafting tour pick ups from other locations and if you wish to self drive we will provide maps and details, and book your rafting tour for you.

When to go ? April / May - offers the most extreme condtions during the snow melt from the surrounding mountains. June / July - medium difficulty - suitable for everyone over the age of 15 years.August / September - calmer conditions, suitable for families (please check with us first for under 12's).

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent / adult on the raft.

WHETHER YOU ARE USING BLACK MOUNTAIN'S RAFTING TRANSFER SERVICE OR DRIVING YOURSELF, YOU WILL NEED TO CROSS THE MONTENEGRIN BORDER AT SCEPAN POLJE IN ORDER TO REACH THE RAFTING CAMP. YOU WILL NOT ENTER BOSNIA, BUT PASSPORTS ARE REQUIRED FOR CROSSING FROM MONTENEGRO TO THE ROAD WHICH LEADS TO THE RAFTING CAMP. One Day Rafting Trip

Departures from Herceg Novi 0630am and Kotor (from 0600am) every Thursday in summer

Arrival at Scepan Polje by 1030am. Transfer to raft start point for your safety briefing. Rafting commences on an 18km long stretch of the spectacular Tara Canyon, with plenty of photo stops and opportunity to swim in the waterfalls en route. The rafting ends with a snack and then return transfer back to the coast arriving late evening.

*** Please note that in addition to Black Mountain's regular Thursday Tara rafting tours departing from the Bay of Kotor, we often have departures on other days of the week during the summer season. Please Contact Us for more details. If you have your own rental car and prefer to make your own way to the Tara Canyon, we can organise rafting on any day of the week during the summer season (for one day rafting trips) and for longer tours we can advise on which dates and days the group trips will depart. We can also organise rafting departures from Kolasin for any guests who are based in the north. Please Contact Us to discuss your requirements.

Two Day Trip / One Overnight stay and Two Days of Rafting (82kms rafting)

Day 1- Depart by raft after safety briefing from Sljivansko (5 km upriver from the Durdevica bridge) at 0900am. Raft to Lever for a photo and swimming stop by the Bijela Vrela waterfalls. Continue rafting through the stunning Durmitor National Park Durmitor. A short break is made for lunch and the rafts will arrive at the overnight camp at sunset. Dinner is served by the campfire and overnight accommodation is provided in bungalows or spacious tents (all with proper beds, sheets and mattresses).

Day 2 - Departure after camp breakfast to continue rafting to Scepan Polje where the tour finishes by 1230pm.

PRICES FROM 180.00 per person (transfers not included) depending on group size and itinerary. Included : one breakfast, two lunches, one evening meal, overnight camp accommodation, National Park fees, equipment.

No discount for children.

FOR TWO DAY TOURS YOUR TRANSFER CAN BE ORGANISED EITHER BY PRIVATE CAR (WITH DRIVER - RENAULT GRAND ESPACE SEATS 6 PEOPLE IN COMFORT), OR WE CAN OFFER A RENTAL CAR FOR CLIENTS WHO WISH TO SELF DRIVE AND HAVE THE FLEXIBILITY TO EXPLORE OTHER AREAS OF NORTHERN MONTENEGRO.
