On 25 March, Montenegro Airlines (020-7864 403 ; montenegroairlines.com) starts a scheduled link from Gatwick to the coastal airport of Tivat. It will operate on Sundays and Wednesdays.

December 30th
18 hole golf course above Budva gets the go ahead from Montenegro government.
It has been over six years since Jean-Luc Dumortije, the Belgian honorary consul and businessman, bought close to 60 hectares of land on the Spas hill above Budva, in order to build the first golf course in Montenegro. It has recently been announced that he Government of Montenegro has now given the green light to Budva municipality to allow the go ahead of the project, The Royal Montenegro Development.

Aug 4th
Direct Ryanair flights to Podgorica from London Stansted and Glasgow Prestwick may begin in September. As part of the deal being negotiated, Ryanair will have to provide capacity for 50,000 passengers between October 2011 and May 2012 out of a total of 100,000 passengers in year one.
Montenegro Airlines previously announced that they are suspending their service to Gatwick due to low interest. Their prices were much higher than rival carriers out of Dubrovnik.

July 28th
Government statistics recorded 137,567 tourist arrivals in June, a 13.4% increase on 2010. 96.9% of tourist overnights were recorded at the coast with the interior mountains receiving only 1.3% of the total. The tourists came from Russia (29.5%), Serbia (21.4%) , Bosnia (7.1%), Ukraine (3.8%), Poland (2.9%), Kosovo (2.8%). Other countries made up 32.5% of the total.

JAT airlines have announced they will extend their summer flight service to Cilip Dubrovnik until October 28th

July 7th
Lustica Development have announced that they expect to receive the necessary permits to begin the first phase of their 1.1 billion euro development by the end of this year. The company are planning to build a holiday resort comprising 8 hotels, 1,600 apartments, 750 villas, 2 marinas and an 18 hole golf course. The resort will be located close to Plavi Horizonte on the Lustica peninsular.

May 21st
Air Berlin has launched a new route, connecting Nuremberg (Germany) and Tivat (Montenegro) for the first time. Germany's second largest airline will fly to Montenegrin coastal town once per week until mid-September. Flights depart on Wednesday each week. Connecting flights are available from Düsseldorf, Hanover, Hamburg, Berlin and Vienna. Ticket start from EUR 99.00

May 20th
Montenegro will be the fastest growing travel & tourism economy in the world over the next ten years with regard to travel & tourism’s contribution to GDP and employment, according to the latest economic impact research from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Oxford Economics.

May 15th
The EBRD is supporting the development of tourism in Montenegro with a €37 million loan to Adriatic Properties D.O.O. to help raise the attraction of the landmark Sveti Stefan area on the Adriatic as a high-end resort. The loan announcement said that the money will promote sustainable tourism. The money will be invested in apartments and rnovations to the large hotels in Becici.
