Bird Conservation in Montenegro recieves a boost

Black Mountain organised the First Adriatic Flyway Conference, which took place 14th - 17th April 2009 in Ulcinj. The event was a great success and helped promote and draw the eyes of the world to the incredible areas of Lake Skadar and the Big Beach where rare birds and migratory birds have their nesting and stopover sites. These areas need protection and in order to that people need to be informed about the wealth of birdlife which exists there and the huge importance of this area for future protection of wildlife and birds in particular. Ruke

The 2009 Herceg Novi craft festival www.ruke.me was a huge success. Herceg Novi and surrounding Bay Area contains many talented local and foreign artists and crafts people. The displays of cratmanship were wide ranging and on incredible quality, from painted glass, to handmade jewellery, local and traditional clothing, home spun and woven to home knitted. Artists displayed scenes of Herceg Novi and Bay life from the modern day to days of old, on canvas, batik, ceramic tiles, hand painted postcards and more. The festival incorporated a local campaign this year to say 'No to Plastic Bags' and local children and people decorated canvas bags and a competition was held for the best designs. Black Mountain together with Leave No Trace Master Educator Vlatko Bulatovic organised a Leave No Trace workshop for local children highlighting one of the seven principles of Leave No Trace - to take your rubbish home with you and dispose of it correctly.
