Kite Surfing

Our Kite surfing and Windsurfing holidays are based on the Adriatic coast of southern Montenegro. The training centre is licensed to operate on Ada Bojana island, a wildlife sanctuary with a 4km fine-sand beach. We provide IKO training packages and use Naish kites, boards and harnesses and HiFly sails, boards and rigs. We have equipment to cover all wind ranges.

The details :

Your Safety: We demand the highest standards of safety and professionalism from our partners. We use a safety boat and provide helmets and lifejackets, our instructors follow IKO safety standards. From you, we require that you are medically fit, at least a competent swimmer and that you follow your instructor’s commands during training. Kite and wind surfing are extreme sports and are therefore potentially dangerous to both the Surfer and others. We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance which covers this activity.

Conditions: We can operate from March to November. Wind conditions during the autumn and early spring can be severe, sea temperatures drop as low as 10.8 c. (we do provide wetsuits). In the summer months, the Mistral is the prevailing wind, very calm in the mornings, with a predictable onshore wind, strength 4-5 bf and up, every afternoon. Sea temperatures reach as high as 27.0c

Location and sites: The coastline here is less developed and beaches often quite deserted, (August is the busiest month). We use Ada Bojana (3.8km) and nearby Velika (10km) beaches, both with fine sand. The area has been attracting dedicated board sailors from neighbouring countries and in the last few years, the first small, international regattas have been organised. Though much quieter than a typical Mediterranean resort, you are close enough to Ulcinj for a little après surf in the old town, and the advantage is a beach uncluttered with bathers, boats or jet-skis.

Our Kite Surfing holidays:

Our accommodations are just a short walk from the beach and training centre. Our standard accommodations are twin or double room, bed and breakfast. Of course you can choose a range of accommodation options for each holiday. (click here for other accommodation options). You can individually book any of these courses as part of a longer or group visit to Montenegro or combine with other Activities (see packages below). Prices include accommodation, airport transfers, equipment hire, training and IKO certification.

1 week courses :

• 7 nights Kite surf beginners – training over 5 days covering theory, techniques, safety, site assessment, wind knowledge, equipment set up, launching and landing.

• 7 nights Kite surf advanced – Includes a 5 day training programme for those who can already kite surf. All of the above in more detail, plus basic meteorology, upwind sailing, jibes and curves and jumps.

• 7 nights Windsurf (level 1) - 5 day course to learn; Launching and landing, rigging, sailing techniques, points of sail, tacking and gibing, rescue techniques, safety and basic sailing theory, leading to a level 1 qualification.

• 7 nights Windsurf (level 2) - 5 day course to learn; Launching and landing, rigging, sailing techniques, tacking and gibing, harnesses, straps and body posture.

• 7 nights Windsurf (level 3) – 5 days covering; Beach starts, Launching and landing, harnesses straps and stance, carved gybes and planning techniques, short boards.

2 week courses :–

• 14 nights Kite surf beginners – as per 5 day beginner’s course plus a further 5 days programme including upwind sailing, jibes and curves, all the elements of advanced course if the student progresses quickly.

• 14 nights - Assistant Kite Surf Instructor, a 10 day training programme for advanced/experienced kite surfers.

• 14 nights - Windsurf Intermediate (Levels 1 and 2), 10 day course to learn; Launching and landing, rigging, sailing techniques, points of sail, tacking and gibing, rescue techniques, safety and sailing theory, tacking and gibing, harnesses, straps and body posture. Leading to a level 2 qualification.

Longer courses :– We can arrange a professional development course for would be instructors… up to 6 weeks duration.

Black Mountain do not organise flights. Our holidays are individually tailored which means that the duration and location are determined by you. For this reason it is difficult to reserve seats with charter companies who prefer to sell package holidays and insist on reserving two-way seats for fixed periods of seven or fourteen days. Instead we provide a list of agents, operators and airlines who sell flight-only. Most of these allow you to book one-way or for non standard duration. You choose your dates and days to arrange your best price, we then arrange the holiday to fit.

Our packages: If you are planning a multi-activity or bespoke holiday or have already booked your visit to Montenegro, you can select any of these options. Prices include all equipment hire, safety support, accommodation and transfers from Dubrovnik or Montenegro locations.

1-10 day, Kite surf or Windsurf accommodation and hire. For the competent sail boarder or kite surfer who fancies a few days sailing but doesn’t want to bring all the equipment on the flight. Sail/surf independently or with the group, share experience and local knowledge with our instructors.

5 day courses :– Any of the 5 day courses outlined above can be arranged during your stay in Montenegro. Our rates include accommodation and transfers from any location in Montenegro.
