The diving in Montenegro is superb! Incredible underwater topography, 20 metre visibility, fascinating wrecks from Roman Galleys to World War Two destroyers, and all beneath some of the warmest seas in the Mediterranean. Black Mountain works with the SSI Adriatic group to provide an unrivalled diving experience. Our partners in Montenegro are fully SSI qualified to instruct and lead a variety of dives, on wrecks, in caves, wall, drift and night dives… you can even try a ‘daytime-night dive’ in an underground submarine base!! As very few dive groups work in Montenegro we nearly always have the dive site to ourselves.
Dive Conditions
We arrange dive trips most of the year round. Sea temperatures in winter drop to a minimum recorded 10.8c at the surface but rise to 15c below 20 meters. In the summer sea temperatures have been recorded as high as 27c. Mean annual sea temperatures are 18.5c. The Adriatic has a relatively high salinity, (slightly above 36%); visibility is usually very good throughout the year. The gentle Mistral winds in summer provide a calm sea state. Tidal ranges along the Montenegrin coast are only about 35 cm.
Location and Sites
Most dives take place close to the entrance to Kotor Fjord, which has been called one of the 10 most beautiful bays in the world. There are more than 20 fascinating sites within 2 hours sailing from our Dive Center at Herceg Novi including 5 wrecks with a maximum depth 40 m, 3 caves, 1 submarine pen, 2 wall dives and the famous Blue Grotto.
Your Safety
We demand the highest standards of professionalism and safety from our partners. All the dive groups we work with have fully qualified, English speaking, SSI instructors. SSI training ensures the highest standards of technical proficiency. SSI qualifications are internationally recognised by all other teaching programmes including PADI. All divers are covered under DAN Europe insurance. All dive boats comply with marine regulations and carry VHF, Oxygen, lifejackets and safety equipment. (We hope it is never needed… but it’s good to know that the naval base in Kotor Fjord has a hyperbaric decompression chamber only 5 miles from the dive centre).
Disclaimer
As diving is a potentially dangerous activity, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are medically fit to dive before booking your dive.
