Canyoning - Nevidio

Black Mountain offers guided canyoning tours in one of the most exciting canyons in Europe - the Nevidio - or 'unseen' canyon.

Nevidio Canyon is part of the lesser Komarnica canyon which runs along the southern boundaries of the Durmitor massif at Dobri Do. The canyon passes between Boljske grede (2091m alt.) and Lojanik (2091m alt.) re-appearing in a gentle river valley as a permanent river.

The canyon was unexplored for many years, hidden in the inaccessible surrounding terrain, which caused curiosity, but there were few organized attempts to understand and explore the area. The first serious attempts were made in 1957 and again in 1964. A series of strange and fantastic stories started to circulate of last unexplored canyon in Europe. Finally in August 1965, when members of PSD Javorak from Niksic, despite being poorly equipped, managed to enter and fully navigate the canyon, finally introducing the world to the amazing Nevidio Canyon.
 
A large part of the canyon is located in eternal shade thanks to vertical cliff faces which keep the sun's rays from penetrating the depths of the canyon. Some parts of the canyon can only be accessed using mountaineering equipment and in places the canyon is less than 1 metre wide. Not for the faint hearted but definitely something very special and an experience which will never be forgotten.

Black Mountain uses only qualified and experienced guides to lead Nevidio Canyon tours. The canyon tours operate during a small weather window usually starting from early to mid July until late September. The canyon will not be accessible after heavy rain during this period or if the guides have any doubts about the safety of the canyon due to local weather conditions.
